ONE FOR THE MUMS OUT THERE...
Updated: Aug 30, 2018
A wedding!! Don't you just love it...dad or much loved male supporter- beaming with pride as they walk your partner or you down the aisle...but what about all those Mums or special ladies in couples lives? Tradition tends to leave us out of the ceremony. We get the big thank you(much appreciated!) but what about the actual taking part? And more and more couples really want that special
figure in their lives to play their part on the day...
I really wish Megan had asked her Mum to walk with her when she married Prince Harry(though you have to love those boys who carried her train!). It just might have broken down a few barriers. So my thoughts today turn to ...how can you include those fabulous ladies who you are proud to call Mum?
The most obvious is...they DO walk with you down the aisle. Why not?
Or Mum walks you to your place at the front as you wait for your partner to arrive, How about-both making an entrance at the same time with Mum and Dad on each side?
Mums can be included by giving a special poem or reading... So beautiful and perfect for bringing back a those childhood memories are words form The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams or Winnie The Pooh by A.A Milne...There are so many to choose from. Check out my Pinterest board for some inspiration...
But I love this...
The Amber Spyglass
"I will love you forever; whatever happens. Till I die and after I die, and when I find my way out of the land of the dead, I’ll drift about forever, all my atoms, till I find you again… I’ll be looking for you, every moment, every single moment. And when we do find each other again, we’ll cling together so tight that nothing and no one’ll ever tear us apart. Every atom of me and every atom of you… We’ll live in birds and flowers and dragonflies and pine trees and in clouds and in those little specks of light you see floating in sunbeams… And when they use our atoms to make new lives, they won’t just be able to take one, they’ll have to take two, one of you and one of me, we’ll be joined so tight.”
Then there's First Kiss ...Last Kiss
In this ceremony the celebrant invites the couples mums to come forward before they pronounce them married and they take their first kiss. He explains how these two woman were the first to welcome these children into the world and kiss them for the first time. Now they will be the last to kiss them in their single life and wish them well into their marriage.
Not a dry eye in the house!
Of course...Mum's can also tie the hand-fast cords-present a single rose to the couple and display them in a vase as a symbol of everlasting love(more of this in a later blog).
One I really like is a wine box ceremony. During the during ceremony, a bottle of wine is enclosed into a box along with personal letters. Mums or special ladies then padlock the box and present it with their words of wisdom for...and suggest when it should be opened and drunk.
These are only a snap shot of what you and your Celebrant can come up with...
For all those Mums or ladies that hold that special place of a Mum in a heart...I salute you.
You will be a calm voice in a the emotional storm that all weddings can bring!! As the Mum and Step Mum of two amazing Grooms and Step Mum of a fabulous Bride....I salute you and wish you the best day ever ...what ever part you play!
Until next time...
